Chronology

About to embark on a world tour, global pop sensation Skye Riley begins to experience increasingly terrifying and unexplained events. Overwhelmed by the escalating horror and pressure of fame, Skye is forced to confront her past. Kyle Gallner is the only actor to reprise his role from the first film so far. Skye Riley: [smiles at subject] out of control, me!. I didn’t have high hopes for “Smile 2”.

How wrong I was

It felt like a concept that had one movie and nothing else. This movie was a better than average horror movie in the original and said we are going to improve on it in every way. I mean, don’t get me wrong, it’s still popcorn horror, but it’s popcorn horror of the highest quality. These days, jumps rarely give anything away from me. This one has jumped out of my chair several times.

However, her character was pretty well developed

But I have to note that it sounded like the loudest scares I’ve ever heard in a movie. Even when the scare didn’t work, the sheer noise could be quite overwhelming. I wasn’t entirely sure if it was just the volume in my theater or the audio mixing. When we were introduced to the main character, and she was a pop star, I was worried that it would be hard to get on her side. Real-life pop stars haven’t been the most likeable people in the last couple of decades.

A good horror opening scene has become a lost art

She was flawed, but she was also very likable and easy to befriend. It must be said that we were helped by Naomi Scott’s excellent performance. It is very important to engage the audience from the beginning and set the standard. Many modern horror films forget about this, but not this one. The opening scene was great and really started the movie off on the right note.

This movie is pretty long for a horror movie, clocking in at over 2 hours

It’s an ambitious ask to maintain quality for so long, and I kept wondering when it would all fall apart. But it never did and even got stuck at the end, and I was really worried it wouldn’t. I never thought I’d write this, but 'Smile 2' will be a contender for one of the best in 2024. horror movies. 9.5/10.
