First the positive – good action, excellent practical special effects and nice visual effects. Director Fed Alvarez and his production team captured the dark atmosphere of Alien and the exciting action of Alien almost perfectly.
The action was exciting with some scary moments
The use of practical effects and realistic miniatures was so refreshing to see in this age of CGI excess. I was thrilled to see a fully realized Xenomorph in the flesh, and the space scenes were beautiful. That camera work, visual presentation and the quality, albeit limited, use of CGI when needed was excellent. Cons – Average acting, nostalgic story, copy & pasting in dialogue from the better Alien movies, as well as including elements of lore from the worse prequels that I wish didn’t exist in the official canon. Also, the reveal of the villain was “oh, get out of here”. I will say no more for a moment. Apart from the excellent lead actor Spenny who played him, the rest of the cast/characters were quite good.

I found the nostalgia bait story boring, eye rolling, and almost fourth wall breaking, which ruined my immersion. I’m sick of sequels/prequels that rely heavily on lazy "remember-berries" get a kick out of casual audiences while driving Alien fans almost crazy. Honestly, that’s just lazy script writing and disrespect to the other Alien movies that did it first! Unnecessarily. Also excessive copying & the pasted dialogue from Sigourney Weaver’s best alien movies was very disturbing. 20th Century Studios should have called it Alien: Remember because you relied too much on memorizing this bit… Finally, trying to cram all the controversial and franchise-damaging Prometheus crap into the movie was frustrating, I hated it all.

And don’t call me a villain, I don’t want to spoil anything, but it was ridiculously lazy. I think making the movie between the first 2 movies was a mistake because you have to make your own movie. it fits into the franchise’s established continuity with all the interesting elements and plot beats needed to make it fit. They should have made a sequel a few years after Alien: Resurrection and started a whole new alien saga long after the adventures of the Weavers (and with better writers). but the disappointing characters resulted in a weak "remember-berry" story and bad screenplay, it was a disappointment. Whether they’re exploring the stars, escaping a dystopia, or making the world a better place, these women are at the heart of science fiction.
